Washington

RESPONSIBILITY is our value for the month of February. We place a huge amount of responsibility on our employees every day. Not only are you responsible for improving the lives of the residents in your care, but you are also responsible for maintaining great relationships among your facility staff members, residents & families, peers, supervisors, Physicians, and many others. You are also responsible for adhering to Medicare guidelines, FP policies and procedures, ethics/standards, therapy rules/regs, etc. You are responsible for so many duties each and every day. At FP, we feel strongly about recognizing our team members for taking on all of these responsibilities daily. We want you to know that we appreciate you and your loyalty.

We founded the Employee Recognition Committee last year and have received great ideas from your peers on ways to recognize you for your commitment. One of the suggestions was a Years of Service board in each department. During the month of February, we are challenging our teams to put together a board to recognize your team members for their years of service at FP. The board could be entitled “Meet Your Rehab Team” or “Our FP Family,” or any creative phrase that you like. The purpose of the board is to highlight our employee’s years of service, but also to showcase your team with a short blurb about them and photo. You may expense a board for this project through Office Max. Send in pics of your Years of Service board to socialmedia@fprehab.com and we will select a winning team to receive a $200 gift card to Target. Get creative with your boards! Your Clinical/Program Manager receives a spreadsheet monthly with employee hire dates, but if you need another report, please send an email to: apeek@fprehab.com

Find Your Happy Place https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/09/08/find-your-happy-place/ https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/09/08/find-your-happy-place/#comments Mon, 08 Sep 2014 18:54:34 +0000 https://portal.fprehab.com/?p=1702 In the therapy business, we all work with people every day. We are all parts of teams who must pull together to accomplish one common goal of “Making a Difference in the Lives we Touch.” We are fortunate to work in an industry where we see the daily progress of those around us and that can be extremely rewarding. Along with that though, requires perseverance and patience. When I first met Dan 18 years ago, I recognized quickly that he was a very patient man. He not only was building a business brick-by-brick, but he was also parenting three young children. Each day, Dan came into the office or walked into a facility, with a smile on his face. Patience and a positive attitude are qualities that I admire above almost all others. You can instantly change the feeling of a room when you walk in with an optimistic outlook and genuine smile on your face. I once asked Dan, “How can you always be so happy?” His answer, “I’m in my happy place. This is Dan-Land and its happy here all the time!” While this made me laugh hysterically (J), I took away an important lesson, find your own happy place. Once you’ve found it, follow these guidelines daily:

  1. Don’t let others interfere with or limit your joy (Say No to Debbie Downers).
  2. You must be very patient among chaos and revert to your happy place as often as needed.
  3. When you feel overwhelmed with the demands of others, go to your happy place and smile until people start to leave you alone.
  4. Find joy in knowing that you are loved and someone out there is less fortunate than you.
  5. Your happy place is a tranquil place where no negativity may enter (Think No Whining Zone).
  6. Check your goals to ensure that you are pursuing objectives that bring happiness for you.
  7. Put down your electronics and read a book, watch the sunset, or kiss a fat baby.

My happy place is a sunny beach with a cool breeze rolling in off the ocean, a great novel and a frozen drink with an umbrella. What’s your happy place?

May is Better Hearing & Speech Month!! https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/04/28/may-is-better-hearing-speech-month/ https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/04/28/may-is-better-hearing-speech-month/#respond Mon, 28 Apr 2014 18:52:35 +0000 https://portal.fprehab.com/?p=1459 May is Better Hearing & Speech Month

Our Occupational Therapy teams were so creative during the month of April in stepping up to our CJF Cookbook Challenge! Speech Month is just around the corner, and as such, we are issuing a challenge to all of our SLPs for the month of May! “Identify the Signs” is a current initiative by ASHA to identify the early signs of Speech and Hearing disorders. Knowing the warning signs of these disorders, can lead to early treatment resulting in faster recoveries and shortened treatment times.

We are challenging our SLPs to educate facilities and family members on the early signs of communication disorders in creative ways. This can be achieved by hanging colorful flyers & posters, decorating the therapy door, making bulletin boards, hosting in-services, distributing fact sheets, open houses….etc. Please take photos of your “Identify the Signs” activities and send those to us by May 28 to compete for a $150 WalMart gift card! Submit all photos to: socialmedia@fprehab.com

We decided to incorporate a fun challenge during OT Month which will involve our residents, as well as, raise funds for The Cookie Jar Fund!

APRIL OT MONTH CHALLENGE: Each and every Occupational Therapy team is challenged to take the “CJF Recipe Book/Apron Challenge!” To participate in this challenge, your rehab team would purchase one CJF Cookbook/logo apron for $30.00 (all proceeds benefit the CJF) and CREATIVELY develop a resident activity that incorporates the use of these items.

We know many innovative OT’s out there and predict this to be a superb challenge! Please take pictures of your activity in action with residents and send to socialmedia@fprehab.com by April 25, 2014. We will select the most creative entry and that team will receive a $150 Target card to purchase items for your department, or go to lunch, or whatever you choose! The winning team will be announced on April 28, 2014.

To order your CJF Cookbook/logo apron, please go to www.cookiejarfund.com, select the $30 option then click donate. You will have the option on the payment page to select “special instructions” and you can leave a note to us saying “CJF Challenge.”

Happy Baking! 😀

Commit to Self-Improvement in 2014! https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/01/09/commit-to-self-improvement-in-2014/ https://portal.fprehab.com/2014/01/09/commit-to-self-improvement-in-2014/#respond Thu, 09 Jan 2014 19:37:34 +0000 https://portal.fprehab.com/?p=1278 Did you know that 45% of Americans typically make resolutions for the New Year? However, only 8% of those people are successful in achieving their resolution. Yikes! Why is that? When resolving to make improvements in your life, you have to first motivate yourself, then follow through, ignore small failures, and finally hold yourself accountable. We all have good intentions to self-improve, but these resolutions typically fall to the wayside due to many other former commitments and responsibilities. Since we all need a little push to get motivated, we thought a $100 Target gift card might do the trick!!

At Functional Pathways, we stand behind our company Values and expect all of our employees to embody those values each and every day. As a part of our commitment to Self-Improvement, we offer our online university, www.fpuniversity.com, as a convenient e-learning library of content comprised of Video, Text, Live, Virtual and Webinar courses. From now through March 31, we are running a challenge to all full-time employees, and part-time employees who have purchased access to FPU. The two courses below are certified for all disciplines and are excellent resources for our industry. For those of you who complete BOTH courses before April 1, 2014, you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Target card. We can track all of you who complete the courses from our end and will add your name to the drawing as you complete both courses. Happy Learning!!

“Audit Proof your Skilled Documentation” – 4hrs

“Documenting Medical Necessity in Today’s Environment” – 2hrs (not approved in OH)

“Marketing for Health Care Professionals”—2hrs (can be substituted for Documenting Medical Necessity)

We are Family https://portal.fprehab.com/2013/12/05/we-are-family/ https://portal.fprehab.com/2013/12/05/we-are-family/#respond Thu, 05 Dec 2013 14:09:52 +0000 https://portal.fprehab.com/?p=1196 By now, you have probably heard the phrase “FP family” on numerous occasions. You may have heard “welcome to the FP family” from recruiting or “we are so happy to have you as a part of our FP family” from your managers and peers. Behind most great company tag lines or catch phrases is a talented marketing agency who came up with it. These firms coin catchy phrases to elicit a certain message or company culture, but that is not the case at FP.

Dan founded the company in 1995 and I came to work for FP in 1996. From the beginning, I felt I had found a company that had my best interest at heart. Dan truly wanted to operate a family owned business where the needs of the employees came first and foremost. As the company grew from 80 employees at my hire date, to over 2,000 now, he has fostered this sense of family deep in the hearts of our Corporate team members. This is why we have so many Executives who have remained loyal to FP for over five years, even as long as seventeen years! They, in turn, have fostered the family message in all of your hearts as well.

At FP, we didn’t pay a marketing firm to come up with the term “FP family.” I have watched this phrase evolve over the years and have heard RVP’s, RM’s, CM’s and entire departments, say this time and time again. I believe the first person to officially coin the phrase was Senior RVP, Steve Bauer, so I’ll give credit where credit is due! But the message of family, by taking RESPONSIBLITY for one another and COMMITMENT, being committed to FP and our resident’s, has resonated throughout our company for many years. It is heart warming to hear so many employees say that they have found their company family and home. I want to say a special thank you to all of you for being a special part of our FP family!
