This blog was referring to CAHs with swing beds. If you have questions specifically to your setting, you may contact Anthony Hodge at 410-786-6645 or reach out to your state RAI assessment coordinator. The link is: https://www.cms.gov/files/document/appendix-b-12262019.pdf.

Billing department is questioning regarding a recent Swing Bed patient. Marion General Hospital is not a critical access hospital.

No, a pacemaker surgery involves a small skin incision and the recovery is quick. It is not considered a major surgery

As long as you have completed your initial Medicare assessment (5-day), you can complete an IPA. The IPA will change the payment beginning on the IPA ARD. Per the RAI Manual instructions, the ARD decision is the provider’s decision so you can set it when you want. Keep in mind that you will also need the BIMS and PHQ-9 interviews and section GG information for the IPA so you technically wouldn’t be able to set the ARD any earlier than today’s date or forward, not retrospectively.

Cardiac Catheterization is not considered a major surgery because there is no large surgical incision and it has a very short recovery time.

Therapy does not need to complete a new evaluation when an IPA is completed and they should not complete a discharge for the Medicare A stay up to the ARD for the IPA.
